The program focuses on body
and space awareness, co-ordination, flexibility, and musicality. Students will
learn dance and theatre terminology and become familiar with stage direction.
They will also talk about famous performers and important qualities for good
stage performance.
Dance In School teaches from a variety of dance styles including Tap, Musical
Theatre, and Jazz to all elementary age groups.
The program is very flexible and can be adapted to complement existing music
classes or help prepare for a school concert.
Learning Outcomes
Students will combine music with physical fitness and learn enough basic skills
to create new dance steps and perform their own dances.
Teachers can continue the dance experience in their PE classes by letting the
students experiment with creative dance steps. Dance In School provides a
practical foundation for future classroom learning about theatre, individual
performers, and music.
Program Format
Students attend one class each day. The program runs one full week and finishes
on the last day with a morning rehearsal and an afternoon performance.
The class size is flexible with up to 60 children. The younger grades may have
shorter classes than the older grades.
Dance In School will work closely with school faculty to develop a customized
program that works best with your school.
